TL;DR: Most AI visibility tools promise the same thing. They differ in four practical ways: which AI engines they cover, how they collect answers (official APIs, the real chat interface, or a pre-built prompt database), how many prompts you get for the money, and whether you can get the raw data out through exports, Looker Studio or an API. Below are 20 options we checked on their own websites in October 2026: 5 SEO suites, 11 dedicated platforms, 3 free sources and 1 data API, plus a free Google Sheets tracker you can build yourself with Apps Script.
Prices are as listed on each vendor’s pricing page on October 12, 2026. Some pages show euros or dollars depending on where you view them from, and several vendors change plans often, so confirm before you buy. Nobody paid to be included.
If you are new to the topic, read how to track your brand in AI search first. It explains which prompts to track and why a single check means little.
What actually separates these tools
The 20 tools at a glance
The four groups do different jobs and are not substitutes: trackers run your prompts, indexes show answers collected in advance, the free sources report your own citations and visits, and data APIs give raw material for your own reports. Most teams combine one tracker with the free sources.

Each tool in detail
All-in-one SEO platforms with AI visibility tracking
AI tracking is now built into Semrush’s SEO plans rather than sold as a separate product. The $139 plan includes AI visibility reports for any domain, sentiment and custom prompt monitoring; daily prompt tracking starts at 50 prompts on the $199 plan, 100 on $299 and 200 on $549, which also adds API access. Good if you want AI and classic SEO numbers in one place; less flexible on engines and prompt volume than dedicated tools.
Engines: Google AI surfaces, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and more. Price: AI features from $139/mo; 50 daily prompts from $199/mo.
Two products in one. The AI Visibility Index runs more than 476 million prompts built from Ahrefs’ keyword database through six AI platforms, so you can look up any brand’s mentions, citations and share of voice instantly, with history back to 2025. The catch: the index is re-tested monthly and works best for brands and topics with real search demand. Custom Prompts track your own buyer questions daily; every paid Ahrefs plan includes a small quota (5 prompts on Lite, 10 on Standard, 20 on Advanced). Each Claude update uses 8 checks instead of 1.
Engines: AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot; Claude for custom prompts. Price: Custom prompts from €47/mo; AI Visibility Index from €179/mo.
An add-on to SE Ranking that covers competitor research across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and includes SE Visible with 200 prompts for tracking mentions, citations and sentiment. The SE Ranking API has an AI Search section, which makes it one of the cheaper ways to pull AI visibility data into your own reports.
Engines: AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity. Price: AI Search add-on €79/mo (monthly billing).
Its difference is traffic. Besides brand visibility, sentiment and citation analysis, Similarweb estimates how much AI chatbot referral traffic you and your competitors get, and which competitor pages receive it. It is the only tool on this list that estimates competitors’ AI traffic. The $99 tier covers AI features only; SEO and ad intelligence cost more.
Engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Mode, plus AI Overviews and others. Price: From $99/mo (1 user, 3 months history).
An enterprise SEO platform that relaunched its AI Search Performance product in 2026. It ties share of voice, mentions and citations to the content behind them, which suits large sites with many content owners. Pricing is by quote.
Engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode. Price: Custom (enterprise).
Dedicated AI visibility platforms
Aimed at enterprise teams. Beyond tracking, it shows estimated prompt volumes (“what users are prompting”), has a Sheets add-on and an API, and now bundles an “AI Marketer” agent. The public trial runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews; everything else is a custom quote.
Engines: Up to 9: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, ChatGPT Shopping. Price: Free 7-day trial; Enterprise custom.
A popular mid-market choice with unlimited users on every plan and daily tracking. Plans are priced by prompts (50, 150, 350) and you pick three models, adding more for €25 to €115 a month each. Looker Studio comes with the €425 Advanced plan; API access with Enterprise.
Engines: Choose 3 on standard plans from ChatGPT, AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity; up to 13 on Enterprise. Price: From €85/mo (50 prompts).
The lowest entry price among the dedicated tools, with unlimited team members and daily tracking. The €189 Standard plan (100 prompts) adds API, MCP and Agent Analytics. It also tracks ChatGPT Ads, which is useful now that ads appear under ChatGPT answers.
Engines: ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot; Claude, AI Mode, Gemini as add-ons. Price: From €29/mo (15 prompts).
Tracks visibility by persona and also works on the other side of the problem: AI agent traffic analytics and “Agent Pages,” a version of your site served to AI crawlers. Core covers three engines; the rest require Enterprise.
Engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot on Core; Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, AI Mode, Grok on Enterprise. Price: From $250/mo (125 prompts, 5 users).
Credit-based: one credit is one AI response, and Starter includes 3,600 a month. The free Essential tier is generous enough to test the product properly. API access is an extra charge on Starter and included on Enterprise.
Engines: Free: 5 engines; Starter: 11 incl. AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Mistral. Price: Free tier (300 credits); Starter $295/mo.
Built around buyer personas: it infers who buys from you, writes the prompts each persona would ask, and shows visibility by persona, topic and model. Gumshoe’s Patrick O’Donnell co-authored the SparkToro study on how inconsistent AI recommendations are. A good fit when different buyer roles ask very different questions.
Engines: Audits run on 6 of 11 tracked models, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Grok, AI Overviews. Price: Free sample; $99/mo per project.
Credits are spent each time an AI engine is queried, so you decide how to split them between prompts, engines and frequency. Pro+ (€229) adds a full REST API; higher plans add white-label reporting for agencies. 7-day free trial.
Engines: Major engines, including newer ones such as Meta Muse Spark. Price: From €99/mo (1,200 credits).
Its FAQ says it collects data by capturing the real chat interfaces rather than calling the APIs, which matters because API answers can differ from what people see. Higher plans add agent analytics, state and city tracking and an “Ads Radar.”
Engines: 4 models per plan, chosen from ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Claude, Gemini, Llama, DeepSeek, Grok and others. Price: From $95/mo (50 prompts).
One plan with 500 prompts, every major engine, 50+ countries and API access, which is unusually broad for the price. Reports are weekly rather than daily, and the price is marked as a limited-time offer.
Engines: 10 engines incl. ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI, DeepSeek. Price: $79/mo (500 prompts).
Fully usage-based: a daily prompt costs seven times a weekly one, and seats and competitors are free. AI Overviews and Bing checks also capture the top 10 organic results, so you can compare AI and classic rankings for the same query.
Engines: 7: ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Copilot, Bing AI Overview, Gemini. Price: About $0.01 per prompt per engine per check; presets from $42.75/mo.
A content-writing platform that added GEO tracking. Convenient if you want tracking and content creation in one subscription, but standard plans cover only three engines.
Engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews on standard plans; 8 engines on Enterprise. Price: From $79/mo billed annually (50 prompts).
Free tools and first-party data
Enter your company, location and industry and get a score out of 100 across sentiment, presence quality, brand recognition, share of voice and market competition. It is a one-time snapshot based largely on what the models already know, not ongoing tracking, but it is a fast way to show a team why this matters.
Engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini. Price: Free; HubSpot AEO tracking from $50/mo.
As of October 2026, the only dedicated AI citation report from a search engine: how often your pages were cited, which pages, and the grounding queries behind them. No click data and sampled counts, but it is real platform data rather than a simulation.
Engines: Microsoft Copilot, Bing AI summaries, select partners. Price: Free.
Not a visibility tracker, but the place to see whether visibility turns into visits and leads. Clicks from Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode are not included (they count as Organic Search), and some AI visits arrive without a referrer.
Engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Copilot, Grok and other recognized assistants. Price: Free.
Data APIs for your own tracker
A developer-focused data API. LLM Responses sends your prompts to several models; LLM Scraper returns answers as they appear in the ChatGPT and Gemini interfaces; LLM Mentions searches a database of AI answers for your brand; AI Keyword Data estimates AI search volume. Pricing is per request (for example $0.0012 to $0.004 per scraped ChatGPT result page), so a few thousand checks a month cost very little.
Engines: LLM Responses (several models), LLM Scraper (ChatGPT and Gemini as shown in the interface), LLM Mentions (ChatGPT, AI Overviews). Price: Pay as you go; $1 free credit.
Build your own tracker: API, interface data and a Google Sheet
If you have a short prompt list, or want full control of the raw data, you do not need a subscription. There are three ways to do it yourself, from simplest to most complete.
Option A: a Google Sheet with an Apps Script macro (official APIs)
The script below sends each prompt to OpenAI’s Responses API with the web search tool turned on, which is the setup OpenAI’s web search guide recommends. It records which of your tracked brands appear and which URLs are cited, then appends one row per answer to a Results sheet. Set a time-driven trigger (Triggers, then Add trigger, then weekly) to run it automatically.
// Google Sheets > Extensions > Apps Script. Store your key in
// Project Settings > Script properties as OPENAI_API_KEY (never in the sheet).
// Sheets needed: "Prompts" (A: id, B: prompt, C: type, D: branded yes/no),
// "Brands" (A: brand or alias, one per row, your brand first), "Results".
const MODEL = 'gpt-5.5'; // check OpenAI's docs for the current recommended model
const RUNS = 3; // runs per prompt per session
function runPrompts() {
const ss = SpreadsheetApp.getActive();
const key = PropertiesService.getScriptProperties().getProperty('OPENAI_API_KEY');
const prompts = ss.getSheetByName('Prompts').getDataRange().getValues().slice(1);
const brands = ss.getSheetByName('Brands').getRange('A2:A').getValues().flat().filter(String);
const out = ss.getSheetByName('Results');
prompts.forEach(([id, prompt, type, branded]) => {
for (let run = 1; run <= RUNS; run++) {
const res = UrlFetchApp.fetch('https://api.openai.com/v1/responses', {
method: 'post', contentType: 'application/json', muteHttpExceptions: true,
headers: { Authorization: 'Bearer ' + key },
payload: JSON.stringify({ model: MODEL, reasoning: { effort: 'low' }, // keeps each call well under 60 s
tools: [{ type: 'web_search' }], input: prompt })
});
const data = JSON.parse(res.getContentText());
const msg = (data.output || []).find(o => o.type === 'message');
const block = msg ? msg.content.find(c => c.type === 'output_text') : null;
const text = block ? block.text : '';
const cited = block ? [...new Set((block.annotations || []).filter(a => a.type === 'url_citation').map(a => a.url))] : [];
const found = brands.filter(b => text.toLowerCase().includes(String(b).toLowerCase()));
out.appendRow([new Date(), 'ChatGPT API + web search', id, prompt, type, branded, run,
found.join(', '), cited.join(' '), text]);
}
});
}Then add a Summary sheet with these formulas:
| Metric | Formula |
|---|---|
| Visibility rate (your brand in B1) | =COUNTIF(Results!H:H,"*"&B1&"*")/(COUNTA(Results!C:C)-1) |
| Non-branded visibility rate | =COUNTIFS(Results!H:H,"*"&B1&"*",Results!F:F,"no")/COUNTIF(Results!F:F,"no") |
| Citation rate (your domain in B2) | =COUNTIF(Results!I:I,"*"&B2&"*")/(COUNTA(Results!C:C)-1) |
| Answers collected | =COUNTA(Results!C:C)-1 |
Things to know before you rely on it:
- Apps Script stops a run after 6 minutes. In our test, each call with low reasoning took 8 to 19 seconds, so one run handles roughly 15 to 25 answers. Split a longer prompt list into batches and schedule several triggers.
- The API is not the app. This measures what the model returns through the API with web search, not what a logged-in person sees in ChatGPT. Use it for trends, and spot check the real app by hand.
- Brand matching is simple text matching. Add every alias and common misspelling to the Brands sheet, and watch for brand names that are also ordinary words.
- Other engines work the same way. Google’s Gemini API supports a Google Search grounding tool and Perplexity has Search and Agent APIs that return sources. Request formats differ and change often, so copy them from the current docs.
- Cost: each answer is billed as normal model usage plus web search tool calls, at the provider’s current rates. Check the pricing page and set a monthly budget limit in your API account before scheduling anything.
Option B: interface data through a data API
To see answers as they appear in the chat interface without building a scraper, DataForSEO’s LLM Scraper API returns ChatGPT and Gemini answers as displayed, including detected brands and URLs, from about $0.0012 per result page in its standard queue. The SE Ranking API also includes AI Search data. Both work from Google Sheets (Apps Script), Python, or tools like Make, Zapier and n8n.
Option C: pull data out of a tool you already pay for
Many platforms above have an API or MCP server (Otterly.AI, Peec AI on Enterprise, Rankscale Pro+, LLMrefs, ZipTie, Promptwatch, Gumshoe) or a Looker Studio connector (Peec AI, Otterly.AI for agencies, Rankscale, Scrunch). Pull weekly numbers into the same sheet or dashboard as GA4’s AI Assistant channel and your CRM leads, so visibility and outcomes sit side by side.
Which one should you choose?
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small business or first test, under $100 a month | HubSpot AI Search Grader (free), then Otterly.AI Lite or LLMrefs | Cheap entry; LLMrefs gives many prompts and engines for one price |
| Already pay for Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking | Their AI tracking add-on or included quota | One login, AI next to SEO data; add a dedicated tool later if you outgrow it |
| B2B SaaS with several buyer roles | Gumshoe or Peec AI | Persona-level visibility (Gumshoe) or clean multi-model tracking with unlimited users (Peec AI) |
| Agency with many clients | Otterly.AI, Rankscale or ZipTie | Agency features, white label or pay-per-use pricing across clients |
| Enterprise brand, many products and markets | Profound, Conductor or Scrunch Enterprise | Coverage, SSO and support at scale |
| You want competitor AI traffic | Similarweb | The only one that estimates competitors’ AI referral traffic |
| You want full control or your own dashboard | Google Sheets + API script, or DataForSEO | Raw data, your own sampling, lowest cost per answer |
| Everyone | Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance and GA4 AI Assistant channel | Free, first-party, and they show real citations and visits |
Example: an agency tracking 12 clients for under $500 a month
Before comparing plans, check what the price is counted per: project, domain, client workspace or a shared prompt pool. That decides the real cost for an agency more than the headline price. Two ways to stay under budget, using numbers the vendors publish:
- Usage-based: ZipTie’s own preset for an agency with 10 clients and 50 weekly prompts each is $130.72 a month (monthly billing). Two more clients at the same volume keep it well under $500, and prompts are pooled across the workspace.
- Shared prompt pool: LLMrefs ($79 a month for 500 prompts, weekly reports) works out to about 40 prompts per client across 12 clients, with every engine included. Check that its project setup matches how you report to clients.
- DIY for the long tail: put smaller clients on the Google Sheets tracker above and reserve paid seats for clients who need dashboards.
Local service businesses
For roofers, HVAC companies and other local businesses, the questions include a city (“best roofer in Tulsa”), and answers change by location. Look for tools that let you set the country, state or city for each prompt (Promptwatch’s Business plan adds state and city tracking; Peec AI’s Advanced plan adds multiple countries; LLMrefs covers 50+ countries), and write prompts with the city and service in them. Then look at which sources the answers cite for your city prompts, and make sure your listings on those sites are complete and current.
Whatever you pick, run the same prompts in a free trial of two tools for a week before you commit. If two tools disagree sharply on the same prompts, ask both how they collect and sample answers. That conversation tells you more than the feature list.
The bottom line
For most teams the right setup is one paid tool that covers the engines your buyers use, the two free first-party sources (Bing’s AI Performance report and GA4’s AI Assistant channel), and a monthly manual check of the real apps. Choose on engines, collection method and data access rather than dashboard design, and judge every tool by whether it reports visibility rate across enough answers to trust. If you would rather not build and run this yourself, our AI SEO and GEO team sets up tracking and acts on what it finds.
Data Sources: each tool’s own pricing or product page, linked in the table and descriptions above, checked October 12, 2026; OpenAI web search documentation; SparkToro AI consistency study. Prices and plan limits change often; confirm on the vendor’s site.
